Rules
We follow as closely as possible SPN (Slo-Pitch National) Rules:
Exceptions:
- Game Time: No inning is to start after 1 hour and 40 minutes. This does not change even if the game has been delayed because of rain or if the grace period has been used.
- Number of players: A team MUST have 8 players present at the start of the game. There is a 10 minute grace period. After this period of time, if the team still does not have 8, it is considered a default. If a team only has 8 players, the opposing team will supply a catcher to return the ball to the pitcher. The teams can discuss whether this borrowed catcher will make defensive plays. If the team with 8 players has other players arrive, they should revert to supplying their own catcher.
- Underaged players: Teams can have any number of “under 30” players on the roster. There can only be 4 underagers on the field defensively at any time though. A 5th can be on the field if they are either the pitcher or the catcher.
- Mercy Rules – Innings/Game: There is an 8 run maximum for runs scored during innings 1 though 6. All additional innings played will have no maximum. If the game is already out of hand, please consider continuing with the 8 run max limit. Run differential does not come into play for ending the game. The team on the losing side can at any time (after minimum 6 innings) call the game due to the Mercy Rule.
- Lead-Off Rule: SPN/SPO now allow lead-offs from bases provided the ball has either hit the ground or has “reached home plate”. We will modify this rule slightly so as to avoid arguments as to when the pitch has “reached the plate”. Stepping off any bag will not be considered an OUT if the ball has hit the ground or the batter has swung at the pitch (the batter swinging at the pitch leads to the assumption that the ball has reached the plate). If a baserunner steps off any base prior to a swing or the ball contacting the ground, or if the batter does not swing, they will be OUT.
- Committment Line: Once a player crosses the commitment line between 3rd base and home plate (the entire foot is on the ground past the line), they cannot be tagged out. The out must be made via the defensive team having control of the ball and stepping on home plate. This will hopefully lead to fewer collisions.
- Rosters/Lineups: A player may be added into the lineup at any time. They MUST be added to the bottom of the order and cannot “replace” other players. Any player that leaves the game is simply scratched from the order and will NOT be an out the next time their spot comes up. If a player leaving the game leaves a team with fewer than 8 players, the game is forfeit.
- Home Run Rule: We allow 5 untouched balls hit over the fence to be counted as home runs. Addendum: Any additional balls hit over the fence will count as home runs as long as the total count of home runs is not more than 2 more than the other team Example: Team A has 5 Home Runs, Team B has 6, and hits 2 home runs. The first counts but the second will not as it move that team to a Plus 3.
